The Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is nearly as old as the county itself: it was founded in 1928, shortly after the completion of Tamiami Trail and the opening of the first Collier County jail. Known as the Southwest Mounted Police back then, the officers patrolled the area on their Harley Davidson motorcycles; then, as now, their motto was “Service to others before self.”
Under the supervision of Sheriff Kevin J. Rambosk, the CCSO serves a diverse jurisdiction including urban, rural and coastal communities, and you’ll have an insight into all aspects of their job during your day observing the force. You’ll start in the Communications Center, where all the emergency dispatch operations are coordinated. Next, you’ll visit the Special Operations Bureau and interact with one of the certified, four-legged deputies. You’ll also have an inside look at operations not usually visible to the public: a tour of the outdoor gun range, simulation training and a visit to the aviation hangar.
By the time the day is over, you’ll have a new appreciation for the men and women in blue and everything they do to keep the public safe.
INSIDER’S INFO: The day with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office is to be scheduled for a mutually agreeable date. All tour components will be subject to resource availability, weather and emergency situations. Expires on January 31, 2023.
