A framed and signed print of “The Ghost Orchid” image by Jay Staton Photography
The very lucky winner of this lot will get to choose a magnificent photograph of an extraordinary miracle of nature from the collection of photographer Jay Staton.
Jay has been capturing fine art images of Florida’s unique natural beauty found in the untouched areas of The Everglades and Big Cypress for more than 35 years. He uses an old wooden large format Deardorff camera when photographing Florida’s landscapes to create images with tremendous detail. Jay’s images are on display in private collections around the country and the Smithsonian has asked to use several of his images to show the beauty of South Florida.
Found primarily in humid, marshy areas of Cuba, the Bahamas and Florida, the rare Ghost Orchid (Dendrophylax lindenii) has a white, otherworldly appearance that lends a mysterious quality to ghost orchid flowers. The plants, which lack foliage, look like they’re suspended in air as they attach themselves to tree trunks via a few roots. The Ghost orchid was the subject of a feature movie entitled "Adaptation", starring Nicolas Cage and Meryl Streep and was also the subject of the book, "The Orchid Thief". The Ghost orchid is the most sought-after orchid in the world.
There’s a very special spot in your home waiting for this remarkable piece of art.
INSIDER’S INFO: The winning bidder will be able to select one (1) print from several Ghost Orchid images Jay Staton has in his portfolio.
