Dinner at Old Memorial for three (3) people
After successfully launching the Outback Steakhouse chain, founder Chris Sullivan turned to his true passion: golf. Along with Outback co-founder and friend Bob Basham, he decided to pursue his dream of a “pure, undisturbed sanctuary of golf.” Named for a highway that was once the only route to the Tampa Bay area, the Old Memorial Golf Course opened in November 1997.
Designed by architect Steve Smyers, the 7,389-yard course is known for its dramatic use of bunkers that present a formidable challenge for both amateurs and professionals alike. The inscrutable nature of the course has led Smyers to describe it as his “Mona Lisa,” and it differs significantly from the majority of Florida courses that primarily feature over-water hazards; Greg Norman told Smyers that it reminded him of some of his favorite Australian courses such as Royal Melbourne and Kingston Heath. With its large, comfortable clubhouse, extensive practice area and superb accommodations, this private, walking-only course ranks as one of the best in the state—and one of the hardest for non-members to access and play.
