2 - 750ml 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Il GreppoBiondi Santi
2 - 750ml 2010 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino Montosoli
2 - 750ml 2010 Mastrojanni Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Loreto

From the private cellars of Mary & Joe Smallwood, purchased and stored with passion in Naples, Florida.

Once believed to be a separate grape variety, Brunello is now recognized as the most prized and distinctive clone of Sangiovese. It is expressed most nobly around the town of Montalcino in Tuscany, where the warm, dry climate usually provides perfect ripening conditions. Brunello di Montalcino was one of Italy’s rarest wines by the end of World War II, as there was only one producer (Biondi-Santi) and there had only been four declared vintages prior to 1945. Although there are nearly 200 vintners making the wine today, Brunello remains one of the most sought-after bottles in Italy.

All three of these magnificent wines come from the highly acclaimed and consistent 2010 vintage. Mastrojanni’s vineyard designated Vigna Loreto is aged 36 months in barrel to produce a full-bodied structure with overtones of spices and tobacco. Altesino’s Montosoli, rated #18 on the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 for that year, is a blockbuster brimming with flavors of sweet red cherry, plum, spice and savory fresh herbs. From the winery that started it all, the Tenuta il Greppo from Biondi-Santi comes from Sangiovese vineyards over 25 years old and is only released in the best years; the texture is delicate, complex and smoky, with hints of violet and licorice. One critic compared it to “being behind the wheel of a vintage Rolls-Royce.”
