Like most noted chefs, Tony Ridgway puts nearly as much emphasis on wine as he does on food—and few wines are as versatile with food as Pinot Noir. The wine shop, Tony’s Off Third, carries over 75 of them. This remarkable lot is a collection of six of wine director Sukie Honeycutt’s favorite and most special small production California Pinot Noirs. The best news of all is that these six wines come from stellar recent vintages and will age well for years to come.
The real question is, where do you start? Perhaps with the Raen Royal St. Robert Cuvée, named by Dante and Carlo Mondavi in honor of their grandfather Robert. Or Roar Gary’s Vineyard, a low-production gem from Santa Lucia Highlands. Or Hartford Court Arrendell Vineyard from the coldest spot in Russian River’s Green Valley, where grapes are sometimes harvested as late as November.
