6 – 750ml 2005 Opus One Red Wine
From the private cellars of Nancy & Joe Masterson, purchased and stored with passion in Naples, Florida.
The world of wine was electrified when Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild, owner of Château Mouton-Rothschild, announced they were partnering on a joint wine venture in the Napa Valley. Mondavi sold 35 acres from his celebrated To Kalon vineyard to the joint venture, and the first vintage of Opus One was released in 1979. The blend was primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec blended in; the wine was initially made by Patrick Léon of Château Mouton.
From the beginning, Opus One has been a cult wine and status symbol as well as the expression of French sensibility in the Napa Valley. It has been universally lauded by wine critics and consumers alike. The 2005 vintage in Napa was cool, which allowed for slow ripening and a long growing season. The wine begins with aromas of blueberry, licorice, nutmeg and white truffle; on the palate, it offers concentrated flavors of cassis, raspberry and dark chocolate. Drinkable now, it has another ten years of life ahead of it, and it will enrich your table and delight your friends.
