From the private cellars of Sharon & Chuck Hallberg, purchased and stored with passion in Naples, Florida.

Sir Peter Michael is a Renaissance man—an engineer and businessman whose far-flung interests included broadcasting and winemaking. In the realm of wine, his vision was to make wine in the tradition of Bordeaux and Burgundy but rooted in the soil of California. He found his location in 1983 on the slopes of Mount St. Helena and founded Peter Michael Winery in Knights Valley.  Today the winery makes three Cabernet Sauvignon blends, four Pinot Noirs, two Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon blends and six Chardonnays; twelve of the fifteen are vineyard-designated, and there is a waiting list to receive an allocation.

Les Pavots (“the poppies,” in French) is the signature red wine blend, usually made from two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and a one-third combination of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. It was planted in Sonoma’s Knights Valley at an altitude between 900-1400 feet. Rocky, perfectly drained soil combines with a perfect south-facing exposure to create the ideal conditions for Bordeaux grape varieties. The lucky winning bidder of this lot will have the an almost unheard-of opportunity to enjoy a decade of Les Pavots, cellared and ready to drink.

INSIDER’S INFO: Wine must be picked up at the Naples Winter Wine Festival office or shipped at the winning bidder’s expense. There is damage to the labels of the 2010, 2011 and 2013 bottles.
