3 – 1.5 Liter Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon (1 each: 2013, 2014 and 2015)
From Shafer Vineyards in Napa Valley, created and stored with passion.
Most of the world’s great wines have the same qualities in common. They’re grown on hillsides with a south-facing exposure. The soil is usually poor, which forces the vine’s roots down into the subsoil in a search for nutrients. And because of the steep slopes, the drainage tends to be naturally regulated and close to ideal.
All those qualities describe the 14 vineyard blocks on Shafer's Hillside Estate Vineyards that grow the grapes for Hillside Select. The vineyards were planted at the direction of the late John Shafer in the 1970s, requiring dynamite to clear truck-sized boulders and prepare the land for cultivation. John’s son Doug began a program of sustainable agriculture in the 1980s, planting cover crops, attracting predators to control the rodent population and enriching the thin topsoil on an annual basis.
The lucky winning bidder will receive Magnums of three recent vintages representing the quality apex of Hillside Select. Produced from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is aged in new French oak barrels for 32 months and rested in bottle for another year before release. Bold and aromatic, structured yet nuanced, these remarkable wines will drink well for decades to come.
INSIDER’S INFO: Wine will be shipped directly to the winning bidder from Shafer Vineyards.
