For a wine to rate 100 points on anyone’s scale, many factors have to come together: the vineyard site is usually historic and well-situated; the vineyard manager and winemaker are the best in their field and at the top of their game; the owner spares no expense in barrels, equipment and winery design. On top of all that, the weather has to cooperate over a year’s worth of seasons.

This exceptional lot brings together some of California’s legendary cult Cabernets. Bill Harlan and Don Bryant created the category in the early 1990s, driven by an obsession to create wines as good as the First Growths of Bordeaux. They were joined toward the end of the decade by Ann Colgin, veteran vintner and former auctioneer for NWWF; she purchased an historic vineyard site in 1996, and in 1997 remodeled the property, named it Tychson Hill in homage to the original owner and farmer Josephine Tychson, and planted vineyards for the first time since Prohibition. The Scarecrow vineyard sits on a parcel once owned by J.J. Cohn, executive producer of The Wizard of Oz, who grew his grapevines next to the legendary Inglenook property. And, maverick winemaker Jason Woodbridge made his reputation at the Kayli Morgan Vineyard near St. Helena, at the base of Howell Mountain.

Wherever you look in this unforgettable lot, you’ll be confronted with one of life’s most precious commodities: perfection.
