The winning bidder on this lot will have a rare opportunity to sample releases from some of Napa’s most distinctive small wineries:
Donald R. Stephens and his wife Trish founded their boutique winery in 1996, in the Vaca Mountains east of St. Helena and at the base of the Howell Mountain AVA. Their flagship wine is the Cabernet Sauvignon from the Estate’s Moose Valley Vineyard, first released in 1999. It is large-scaled and generous, bold and structured, with refined tannins, assertive spice notes and an assortment of mouthwatering black fruits.
Valerie Boyd and Jeff Gargiulo need no introduction, either to wine lovers or to members of the Naples community. They were Founding Trustees of the Naples Children & Education Foundation and the Naples Winter Wine Festival, and Jeff served as Chairman of the very first Festival in 2000. They are also proprietors of one of the finest artisanal wineries in Napa, making Cabernet Sauvignon and blends from estate vineyards. Their G Major 7 Study Cabernet Sauvignon is blended from selected fruit off the 575 OVX Vineyard and is named after a classic jazz guitar chord. Like its namesake, it is composed of four of the five classic Bordeaux varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Merlot. The 575 OVX Cabernet is made from only Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown in the rocky hills east of Oakville. It is their most limited release, with less than 300 cases available in any given vintage.
Screaming Eagle occupies a special place in Napa’s hall of legends. First released with the 1992 vintage, it became one of the most celebrated and expensive wines ever to come out of California—partly due to its scarcity, but mostly attributed to its high levels of concentration and seamless elegance. The 2011 received near-perfect scores from practically every wine critic on the planet and was hailed as the wine of the vintage. The winning bidder will also receive a bottle of 2015 Screaming Eagle The Flight, a Merlot-dominated blend with wonderful energy, freshness, fragrance and structure.
INSIDER’S INFO: Wine must be picked up at the Naples Children & Education Foundation office or shipped at the winning bidder’s expense.
