When three childhood friends—Christopher Strieter, Max Thieriot and Myles Lawrence-Briggs—banded together to produce wine in 2011, they had a few things going for them. The trio grew up in Occidental, in the western Sonoma Coast, an area that had been recognized by insiders as one of the best growing sites for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in California. Max’s parents owned Thieriot Vineyard, which had been a top-quality source for both grapes for several decades. And the three young men sought out veteran winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown to craft their small-production wines, which are only sold through a private mailing list.
This lot’s winning bidder will have the opportunity to sample a range of releases that demonstrate why Senses is so special. The fruit for the UV-El Diablo Chardonnay comes from a sustainably farmed site in the Russian River Valley. The three Pinot Noirs hail from vineyards with impressive pedigrees: Day One (Hillcrest, where Senses started), MCM88 (Keefer Ranch, originally farmed by Kosta Browne) and Terra de Promissio (designated on labels such as Kistler and Williams Selyem). And there’s even a Cabernet from Oakville, ranked among the best of Napa Valley by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
INSIDER’S INFO: Wines will be shipped directly to the winning bidder. Virtual hangout to be scheduled for a mutually agreeable date and will expire December 31, 2021.
