6 – 1.5 Liter Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon
(1 each: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016)
In 1972, John Shafer purchased 200 acres in the Napa Valley, which included 30 acres of vines that had been cultivated by multiple owners back to the 1880s. His original plan was to sell fruit to established wineries, but he was soon experimenting with making his own wine. He produced his first Cabernet in 1978, and since then Shafer Vineyards has become a fixture in restaurants, wine shops and private cellars around the world.
John’s son Doug joined him as winemaker in January 1983, and he was so impressed with the fruit from some of his family's hillside plots that he urged his father tthat they create a 1982 Reserve Cabernet. The 1983 vintage became Hillside Select, a collection of fruit from 14 small vineyard blocks surrounding the winery, which has become a coveted bottle among connoisseurs. The winning bidder on this lot will have an exceptional opportunity to own six of the best vintages of Hillside Select in Magnums: a collection that will illuminate just how spectacular California Cabernet Sauvignon can be when grown in the right places and handled by a wise and experienced winemaking team.
INSIDER’S INFO: Wines will be shipped directly to the winning bidder.
