When it comes to quality in the wine world, smaller is usually better. It doesn’t get much smaller than Barowsky Disesa Vineyards, a boutique property located in the Sonoma town of Healdsburg. The estate is a joint venture between winemaker Benjamin Disesa and his friend and business partner, Andy Barowsky. Together, they operate both the winery and Abaco Wines & Wine Bar in Miami’s Design District, where the wines of Barowsky Disesa are sold exclusively. Benjamin Disesa is a restaurateur from New England who graduated from the Elizabeth Bishop Wine Studies Program at Boston University and studied winemaking under Justin Ennis at Joseph Phelps Vineyards. He is currently in his seventh vintage as the winemaker at BDV.
The winning bidder will enjoy a wine tasting, via Zoom, with Benjamin Disesa. The gems you’ll taste will include:
2014 BVD Barowsky Pinot Noir: Composed of the four best barrels of each vintage, less than 1,000 bottles are made each year of this single clone, estate grown Pinot Noir. The soil is multi-layered, mineral-laden clay that was once San Pablo Bay seabed. This mineral characteristic is very much part of the small slopes of the La Cruz Vineyards unique terroir and comes through in the wine. The vineyards were planted in 1989 and to this day are still completely hand harvested with a focus on organic farming techniques. Pair with skin-on salmon cooked over a robata grill.
2014 BVD Phillip Leonard Pinot Noir: The estate-grown grapes used in the Phillip Leonard wine come from three specific clones of Pinot Noir blended together for finesse and balance. Bramble, dark and red cherries, cut hay, anise and chocolate come through on the nose. A burst of cranberry emerges on the palate with nice acidity and a long finish. Pair with roasted duck with reduced cooking liquids and braised greens.
2016 BVD AM2 Syrah Rosé: This estate bottled Rosé of Syrah is a crisp and refreshing summer wine. Strains of yeast from Provence are used to enhance the complexity and aromas of the Rosé. It is a floral wine with notes of watermelon and cherry. The mineral structure is balanced and refreshing. Enjoy on a warm summer afternoon or as an aperitif at your next cocktail party.
INSIDER’S INFO: Wines will be shipped directly to the winning bidder. Tasting to be scheduled for a mutually agreeable date and is valid until January 31, 2022.
