1 – 3 Liter 2017 OVID. Napa Valley Red Wine
Among the spectacular wineries located on Napa’s Pritchard Hill—Chappellet, Bryant Family, Colgin Cellars, David Arthur, Brand and Continuum—OVID. stands out as distinctive and unique. It was founded by the husband-and-wife team of Mark Nelson and Dana Johnson, who removed 5,000 cubic yards of rock from their section of the mountain before planting vineyards. When they finally did, they devoted the 15 acres exclusively to Bordeaux grape varieties and released their first vintage in 2005. The flagship wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot—the proportions vary from year to year, but always express the essence of the vineyard site. In 2017, a majority stake was sold to the Duncan Family, proprietors of Silver Oak and Twomey Cellars.
2017 was a challenging vintage in Napa, and OVID. managed to harvest all of their grapes before the fires started raging. The wine is opulent and powerful, and OVID. feels that it “captures our feeling of gratitude with a rich and luxuriant expression.” The wine garnered universal accolades from critics, who praised it as “classic and classy” and “retaining vibrant energy while showing a vibrant style.” The winning bidder will receive a three-liter bottle of the 2017 Napa Valley Red Wine, with an estimated maturity of 20-25 years—although, in a Large Format, it may drink well for longer than that.
INSIDER’S INFO: Wine must be picked up at the Naples Children & Education Foundation office or shipped at the winning bidder’s expense.
